About the work
In these textile works on sailcloth, Maja Wunsch combines her love of sailing on the Dutch IJsselmeer with her artistic practice. These pieces were created after she switched to the textile class at Burg Giebichenstein University, during one of the most intense creative periods of the Karl-Marx-Stadt-born artist's career. At first glance, the crumpled state dominates, reminiscent of a sketch. Objects overlap: numbers, hybrid creatures with open mouths, areas of colour and rail-like forms. This creates a state of suspension between flying, falling and oppression.
