About the work
The workshop of Adrian Zingg produced numerous views of the Elb river valley from Meißen to Pirna, from the Erzgebirge Mountains and Saxon Switzerland. He and his disciples also discovered the cave called Kleinsteinhöhle. Of all his disciples, Carl August Richter was particularly close to Zingg. His drawing served as precise preparation for an outline etching with brown wash. The correct rendering of all the details in the pen and ink drawing points to its use in printed graphics. The drawing was not done outdoors, but rather in the studio. It is the product of a picture workshop whose characteristic works are linked with Adrian Zingg’s name.
