About the work
The German form and product designer Karl Clauss Dietel taught at the Schneeberg School of Applied Arts between 1979 and 1990 and was its director from 1986 to 1990. The artist's extensive estate enables us to trace the development of the multifunctional telephones Swingline I (1995) and Swingline II (1998) on the basis of sketches, photographs and foam models. In Swingline I (1995), the user interface and keypad are arranged in a wavy line. The successor model Swingline II (1998) with a fold-out keyboard did not go into series production.
