About the work
Wolfgang Bier's strapped head is as reduced as it is impressive. The helmet is not functional. There is no eye-cutout. Nothing can be opened. At the same time, the lacing pushes the form in and thus creates a moment of constriction. The motif of the head or the enclosed head has always captivated the sculptor Wolfgang Bier. »I mostly make heads. Because in the head, at the head, in the face, in its movements and twitching that arises, reflects what makes people so fascinating. So admirable, mysterious, incomprehensible, contradictory, horrible.«
