About the work
The painting has been conceived as a multi-part space-specific wall object. It consists of two canvases presented standing at right angles to each other in a corner. It contains various shapes in different sizes and colours which are interwoven but do not give rise to an ornamental pattern. Rather the shapes condense dynamically into the corner of the room. The internationally known Scottish artist has referred to a photograph of a female nude in a fashion magazine and to the 1664 Claude Lorrain painting Landscape with Psyche outside the Palace of Cupid as sources of inspiration for this work. Yet scarcely anything of those sources can be discerned in the work. They could instead constitute the starting point for this kaleidoscope of subtle shapes and colours in which Psyche has been metaphorically captured.
