Additional title
Miners' pub
Artist
Henrike Naumann 1984 – 2026
About the work
The sculptural installation was created in 2018 as part of a series of works titled `DDR Noir´, in which the artist combines postmodern furnishings with Socialist Realist paintings. Integrated into the miners’ bar is the painting `Zwickauer Kumpel´ (1961) by Karl Heinz Jakob. Naumann engages in a dialogue with her own family history while simultaneously opening up a conversation about how to approach art created in the GDR. After the political upheaval, the everyday culture of the GDR was cleared out and replaced with something new. Viewers are held up a mirror.
