Artist
Adrian Zingg 1734 – 1816
About the work
The depiction of Augustusburg near Chemnitz entered the collection under the name of Adrian Zingg, but can be regarded as a product of his school. Zingg himself depicted the Renaissance castle on the Zschopau in the Erzgebirge Mountains several times. Different views of it are to be found, among others, in the Albertina in Vienna and the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett. The artist behind the Chemnitz brush drawing in sepia brown may have used a different lineament for reproducing foliage, bushes, tree tops and water, but overall continues the composition modus and style characteristic of the Zingg workshop.
