Artist
Johann Jakob Dorner d. J. 1775 – 1852
About the work
This painterly drawing is of a section of woodlands, an unassuming motif. By leaving the foreground largely free, the artist has created a certain distance. It is an atmospheric scene in which the manifestations of light are traced in numerous ways, while the arrangement of the trees is reminiscent of Dutch models. The free, sketch-like use of chalk and brush points to Munich. It is quite possible that this drawing was done by Johann Jakob Dorner, the Younger.
