About the work
Richard Riemerschmid is regarded as one of the most important artists of the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil era. Under the influence of the English reform movement, he became a founder-member of the Deutsche Werkbund in 1907. The aim of that association was to promote an awareness of quality – despite industrial production, the products were to be high-quality and functional. Riemerschmid’s repeating patterns, based on floral elements and strict in composition, were to be trend-setting for the 20th century. They were used both in the textile sector and for wallpapers.
