About the work
The Sobernheim family commissioned no less a person than the esteemed director of the Berlin Staatsschulen für freie und angewandte Kunst, Bruno Paul, for their country manor, which they had built in 1913. He designed the whole house including the interior décor for its 34 rooms. Paul’s style was fully in keeping with the taste of those bourgeois clients who wished to furnish a home in a contemporary way, but rejected the sober functionality of the Bauhaus style. In Chemnitz Paul designed rooms for the Fritz Esche couple and for Gertrud Körner.
