About the work
The innovations of the Arts and Crafts Movement became manifest in Owen Jones’ 37 principles of good design. Form and colours should be in ideal proportions and oriented around the natural growth and appearance of the plants and animals. The reform guidelines were also a point of orientation for Vigers, who designed various patterns for wallpapers and textiles. The Parrots fabric for A. H. Lee & Sons Ltd., Birkenhead, Lancashire, is a four-colour Jacquard weave on which the birds’ multi-coloured feathers were then printed.
