Artist
Michael Morgner *1942
About the work
In this four-part cycle Morgner uses signs such as triangles, angles and rectangles to create an abstract rendering of the change of the seasons and their specific appearance. What is particularly characterised of his large-format paintings are the complex layering of materials and the unusual application of the paint. Morgner treated several layers of paper with ink, water and dissolved asphalt varnish until it took on a characteristic fragile structure and then added these, collage-like, to his paintings.
