Artist
Gabriele Münter 1877 – 1962
About the work
In many of the woodcuts that Gabriele Münter created from 1907 onwards, the childlike model of her niece Elfriede (Friedel) Schroeter appears again and again. She is the daughter of her sister Emmy and was born in Bonn in 1901. Münter produced a whole series of colour linocuts with toy figures for Friedel. She gives the teddies and dolls their own character and you get the feeling that they are coming to life.
