About the work
These two wallpapers appear completely different to each other at first glance. Walter Weber reduced form and colours to a minimum in his design. By contrast, the multi-coloured wallpaper The Ryburgh, an imitation of a William Morris motif, features broadly curved acanthus leaves. In their basic layout, however, the compositions are surprisingly similar – accentuated verticals cause the motif to extend upwards, but undulating lines and staggered details relax the resulting austerity in the pattern width. At the same time, the shapes and colours are distributed over the surface area in a balanced manner.
