About the work
In 1968, Englishman David Hockney travelled to the European continent to participate in documenta 4, where he became more familiar with the Rhine River landscapes, among other things. These were echoed in his fairy tale illustrations for The Church Tower and Clock (Fundevogel), Rapunzel, and Rumpelstiltskin. A separate loose-leaf set each containing six etchings was printed for four editions of 100 copies each for the bound book with 39 illustrations.
