About the work
The pen and ink drawing »Seerhausen« shows a manor house near Oschatz, the residence of the then Saxon statesman Thomas Friedrich Freiherr von Fritsch, who was the driving force behind the reconstruction of the state after the end of the Seven Years’ War. When Adrian Zingg returned from Paris in 1866, having been appointed professor of landscape copper-engraving at the Dresden art academy, he cultivated contacts with enlightened aristocrats like this influential art connoisseur and collector. He depicted the manor house Seerhausen several times in similar formats and embedded in the surrounding landscape, but from different angles.
