About the work
David Jones spent time in Chemnitz on a scholarship in 2007. While here he also produced several abstract paintings. In this earlier work, the artist used varnish, acrylic and ink on aluminium. The warm delicate brown, red and pink shades are framed by a strong yellow. Acrylic without varnish results in a matt surface on which it is possible to draw. These drawings involve much painstaking work. A lot is left out, or can be read into them. The artist has created a lively, populated pictorial space which the viewer can expand on in his mind.
