About the work
Works like this one with their motifs and images seem difficult to access due to their coded pictorial language. Tàpies’ private idiom of signs and forms consisted of hieroglyphs, symbols, and sequences of numbers and letters. His ubiquitous letters «A” and «T” that also appear as motifs – here in the form of a ladder – stand for his own name or that of his wife Teresa.
