About the work
The so-called plein-air sessions which the artists in the Clara Mosch group organised between 1977 and 1982 are unique in the history of art in the GDR. Michael Morgner was one of the protagonists of these performances, taking part with a great delight in experimentation and always with a slight irony. The act of walking across the lake, which unlike the model in the Bible ends with the artist sinking, was filmed with a Super 8 camera by the art historian Klaus Werner. Morgner, who regards the documentation of the actions as the real artwork, made these serigraphs at a later date using stills from a television set.
