Artist
Martin von Molitor 1759 – 1812
About the work
Despite a foot affliction, Molitor undertook trips and excursions, above all, into the immediate surroundings of Vienna in order to draw outdoors. Mainly in the 1790s and again after 1800 the artist processed the impressions he gained on his travels in drawings whose panoramic breadth betray the influence of Dutch landscape art. Elements such as the church and the mighty tower in this particular work have often been integrated into his riverscapes. Molitor combined different impressions of nature in one landscape, thus creating an image of a new «real” landscape.
