About the work
Christine Stephan-Brosch took portraits of well-known personalities during her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. One such portrait was of Wilhelm Rudolph (1889-1982). The studies depict the artist at work in his studio, painting at his easel and creating a printing block. With his shirt sleeves rolled up, Rudolph appears fully engrossed in the work at hand. It seems as if he is unaware even of the photographer as he critically and thoughtfully examines his work, only to immediately apply his brush once again.
