Artist
Ernst Erwin Oehme 1831 – 1907
About the work
Erwin Oehme was the son of the Dresden court artist Ernst Ferdinand Oehme. He grew up in a household that was shaped by art. Ludwig Richter, who had close ties with the Oehme family, also influenced him. Richter lived together with the family for many years in a house in Dresden Friedrichstadt. Erwin Oehme was admitted to the Dresden art academy when he was 15 years old and studied there for a number of years, among others in Ludwig Richter’s landscape studio. The way the Holzfuhrwerk im Wald is rendered with swift brushwork, here in dark shades, makes it seem more modern and recalls works by impressionist artists.
