Artist
Johann Christian Klengel 1751 – 1824
About the work
The drawing thrives mainly on the harmony of the colours. In depicting the extension in depth, Johann Christian Klengel resorted scarcely noticeably to the traditional colour perspective of brown, green and blue. Even during his lifetime, Klengel was admired for the way he reproduced the warm or cool light of the sun at the start or close of the day, the moon or also the shimmering blue distance behind the trees in the middle ground. Thanks to this sensitivity for atmospheres in nature, he was one of the artists who paved the way for Romantic perception of landscape.
