About the work
Tàpies created ten lithographs as a suite of loose-leaf prints for the portfolio to accompany the collector‘s book project Sinnieren über Schmutz. Dark, grey-brown, downright «dirty” colours predominate in the prints, which also feature thematically appropriate detail such as scuffed edges. One print in the series shows a small partial image of a person dressed in a suit, white shirt and tie – possibly as proxy for Alexander Mitscherlich, the author responsible for the text that appears in the book of the set.
