About the work
The pattern, whether naturalistic or abstract, was particularly important to Dagobert Peche in his designs. Using stylised blossoms, leaves and fauna, Peche developed a highly personal style that made the motifs appear opulent yet strictly ordered. Through his acquaintance with Josef Hoffmann in 1911, Peche began to draft patterns for the WW, becoming the workshop’s artistic director in 1915. When it was founded, the WW focused mainly on product practicality; after Peche entered the scene, the decorative design of surfaces in the living area gained in importance.
