Artist
May Voigt 1960 – 2019
About the work
May Voigt did not produce series – each of her photographs stands alone. Even the negative was to be enlarged only once if possible as a finished work; everything was meant to be unique. Repetitions of individual motifs, however, do occur. For example, the shop-window mannequins that appear in droves, as if marching in step through the black darkness. It is easy to imagine a plot when looking at the photographs. They are often about threat, fear and darkness, but also about joy, hope and light.
