Artist
Georg Heinrich Crola 1804 – 1879
About the work
Georg Heinrich Crola was born in Dresden and grew up in Meißen. He spent the first two-and-a-half decades of his life in his Saxon homeland, then, as of 1830, was active in the art metropolis of Munich. It was from there that he got to know the Alps. Like many other artists at the time, Crola spent several days in the state of Salzburg in 1830 drawing. His suggestively rendered close-up view of steeply rising mountain ranges effectively heightens the breath-taking dimensions of the mountains in relation to the living environment of people in the valley.
