Artist
Franz Innocenz Josef Kobell 1749 – 1822
About the work
Franz Kobell presents what is actually an unassuming motif: a view through trees of a barn. After his return from Italy in 1784, he had begun to engage with his new hometown of Munich and with the Bavarian Oberland. Parallel to his detailed ideal landscapes, at the latest as of 1800 he also did brush drawings al fresco, which to the eye informed by modernism still seem progressive and modern today because of their direct grasp of nature.
