Artist
Ernst Erwin Oehme 1831 – 1907
About the work
If Oehme’s oeuvre is viewed as a whole, then the watercolours hold a special place. For them he chose a loose mode of painting in mainly bright fresh colours. The watercolour In the garden Oehme shows a shed and a garden fence along with a burgeoning pumpkin plant. Oehme was obviously fascinated by the impressive natural phenomenon of a huge plant capable of conquering a garden within a few months from out of a single pumpkin seed. The reality of nature is grasped here almost as a sumptuous phenomenon of colour and light.
