About the work
Götzloff was very disappointed not to have found the support he had hoped for in Italy. Due to the political unrest in the country, there was no hope of him receiving larger commissions from the court in Naples. Nevertheless, he succeeded in finding prominent buyers for some of his works and this motivated him to remain, alternately, in Rome, Naples and Sorrento, until his death on 18 January 1866. His wife Louise died in Sorrento after twenty years of marriage. Several months after her death, he captured these houses in Sorrento on paper.
