Artist
Rudolf Schuster 1848 – 1902
About the work
Rudolf Schuster was also one of Ludwig Richter’s students at the Dresden art academy. A travel grant enabled him to stay in Munich for a study period. Other travels took him to Dusseldorf. Compared with the Late Romantic pictorial concepts of the Richter School, the Munich and Dusseldorf academies in the second half of the 19th century provided the young artist with better prospects for a new departure into the modernism that was looming on the horizon. Schuster got to know new possibilities of expression, such as, for example, the freer and looser handling of line and light, which is already in evidence in the drawing on show here.
