About the work
In 1902, 23 stake-holders got together and founded the wallpaper factory Coswig GmbH. The first distemper wallpapers were produced in 1908 and were hand-printed; later production was supplemented with a distemper printing machine. By 1930, annual production had risen to twelve million rolls. Coswig wallpapers became the very epitome of top quality.
The Rosenkavalier collection reflects the boom in contemporary interpretations of Rococo forms that was unleashed by Richard Strauß’ opera of the same name in 1911. The collection offered a rich selection of matching patterns enabling all sorts of combinations.
