Artist
Ernst Ferdinand Oehme 1797 – 1855
About the work
Ernst Ferdinand Oehme was a disciple of Johan Christian Dahl in Dresden, but he also received important inspiration from the pictorial inventions of Caspar David Friedrich. Later, together with his close friend Ludwig Richter, Oehme was one of the trail-blazers of Late Romanticism in Dresden. A study trip to Italy from 1822 to 1825 took him across the Alps. On his return journey to Dresden he made a tour through Switzerland in late summer 1825. There, despite the palm-sized format he used, Oehme succeeded in capturing the awesomeness of the high mountains with their snow covered peaks and rocky slopes.
