About the work
The Europa wallpaper factory launched its Rembrandt collection on the market in 1913. Small-scale patterns featuring ornamental stylised flowers could be individually created from this collection to match the size of the room, its use and furnishings. This enabled the design of complex wall compositions with four or more patterns. According to contemporary critics, the wallpapers, with such onomatopoeic names as Teufelskerl (daredevil) or Rumpelkiste (junk box), were distinct in terms of the effect they produced with their soothing calmness and harmonious colour scheme.
