About the work
At an exhibition in the Königliche Gewerbesammlung in Krefeld in 1912, this wallpaper was described as «a delightful bedroom decoration”. It is in fact a clever combination of roll wallpaper and border. The vertical branches terminate in hanging umbels, conjuring up the idea of a pergola. At the time, wallpaper fashions were dominated by English companies. Floral vine motifs with blossoms of all kinds were very popular. Like almost all German producers, the Krefeld wallpaper factory Hinderer, Thomas & Co., which existed from 1897 to 1985, oriented its production around those trends.
