Artist
Otto Dix 1891 – 1969
About the work
In the years 1922/23, Dix dealt with the theme of the circus in 26 watercolours alone, to which he also dedicated the fourth part of his etching work. One of the most valuable works in this group of motifs is Artistin. The clearly contoured profile figure of the artist stands out against an undefined marbled background reminiscent of the blurring of the colourful lights in the circus ring. In his own manner, Dix emphasises the uniqueness of the woman's appearance through deliberate exaggeration.
